May is always a good month: the days are longer, the spring air gets warmer (but it's not too hot yet fortunately), backyard barbecues are heating up, and it's the one month of the year that honors all things burgers.

While National Burger Month is about to officially close this weekend, meatheads have a new cause for celebration. Gimme A Burger is opening in Pembroke Pines this Sunday and it's giving away free samples during the festivities.

Yasmin and Serhad Oktay, the owners of the Pembroke Pines location of the burger franchise, are throwing a party to commemorate the official grand opening with samples, family-friendly activities, and entertainment.

On Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m., the Oktay's are giving away tastes of the some of the restaurant's signature items, including the frozen custard and the award-winning Infusion Burgers®. The namesake item is made with only 100 percent certified Angus Beer with a number of proprietary ingredients and spices and a trademarked technique.

During the party, Doc Reno of Big 105.9 - Miami's Classic Rock Radio Station will be broadcasting live from the grand opening. In addition to music and plenty of samples, the event include prizes and activities for the whole family.

While there is only one other Gimme A Burger location in South Florida -- in Deerfield Beach -- the local chain has won numerous awards, such as first place at BaconFest 2013 at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in Coconut Creek and second place at the 2012 Boca Burger Battle in Boca Raton. The spot also recently competed for the second year at Riverwalk Burger Battle in Fort Lauderdale.

Gimme A Burger is located at 2010 N. Flamingo Road in Pembroke Pines. Call 954-241-4799, or visit gimmeaburger.com.
