Seems there's never any shortage of disasters on a personal or national scale. Here's two benefits that try to help ease the pain.

At Coco Asian Bistro & Bar in Fort Lauderdale, chef-owner Mike Ponluang is hosting a "Party for a Purpose" on Saturday, June 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The party is an all-you-can-eat Thai and sushi buffet, along with an all-you-can-drink bar and entertainment by Rich Hurt. It's also a celebration of the restaurant's five-year anniversary.

The purpose is relief for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and Thai floods, with 100-percent of the proceeds going to the Japanese Earthquake Relief Fund and Thai Red Cross Society. Tickets are $20 and can be obtained by at the restaurant or by calling 954-525-3541.

At RA Sushi in Palm Beach Gardens and Pembroke Pines,

the week of May 29 through June 4 is the restaurants' annual "Nicky's

Week" benefit for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Named

for the 13-year-old nephew of one of RA's founders who died of brain

cancer, the benefit has raised some $700,000 for the hospital since

2005. Proceeds from a variety of drinks and dishes will be donated, with

a goal this year of $125,000.
