Nineteen months after taking their talents to Boca Raton, LaSpada's Original Hoagies opened their fifth location on Friday off of 17th st. causeway in Fort Lauderdale to a line out the door of hoagie hounds, only after telling their Facebook fans 48 hours in advance.
Known for their extra large made-to-order subs, the almost 40 year-old South Florida staple has made our Best Of... lists countless times, most recently in 2009.
Fort Lauderdale store manager Hailey Burke-Morgan, who previously worked at the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea (LBS) location for seven years, said that the paperwork for the license took awhile to process, but once approved on Wednesday, she set the date to open on Friday for the company's biggest location yet at 1600 square feet.
"We can sit 44," Burke-Morgan said. "[It's a] big change coming from LBS. We only seat eight there."
The new store is relatively hidden, just east of the Southport Shopping Center. When asked about their super secret location, LaSpada's General Manager Phil Kappes laughed.
"We never make anything easy," he said. "But when you get here, it's worth it."
And soon, west Broward County may get their own hoagie heaven. Kappes said they are looking into property in Pembroke Pines for their next location.
