A family-run eatery has moved into the former E&J's Sandwich Shop space off Atlantic Avenue, but it's not your average breakfast, lunch and dinner spot. Instead, think of Lilo's Garden as the only true alfresco dining option in downtown Delray Beach.

At Lilo's, you don't wait in line for a table. You just wait in line. It's a fast-casual concept, without the fast-casual feel -- a fitting addition to the downtown scene amid the rows of upscale, sit-down establishments.

Rather than get all fancy, owner Joe Lipovich -- who bought the space from restaurateur Burt Rappaport just a few steps west of Deck 84 -- has created a walk-up, takeout environment that offers affordable eats for $10 or less.

Lilo's may be street side, but it's certainly not your average street-style food. To keep the line moving, and food fresh, Lipovich and his team prep everything daily. A breakfast menu churns omelets, breakfast burritos, French toast and a $5 egg breakfast sandwich -- on Texas toast, no less -- from 8 or 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., while the lunch menu is offered all day.

Even without the sit-down service -- just a few tables on the sidewalk -- the street-side spot has already made a name for itself with its sandwiches, hot dogs, grilled garlic crusting sliders, homemade chili and cornbread, and 69-cent buffalo chicken wings.

Stop by for dinner and you'll find a few of the lunch menu items converted for late-night eating: wings, crispy chicken tenders, and quesadillas make up the appetizers. However, there are a few surprises, like a citrus-marinated mahi-mahi, or the 9-ounce filet mignon topped with butter soaked crimini mushrooms and a hearty Bernaise sauce.

Lilo's is located at 814 E Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. Lilo's Garden is open Thursday through Sunday, with varying hours. Visit lilosdelraybeach.com, or call 561-272-8049.
