It seems as though booze and television mix as well as bourbon and bitters these days. First there was Duff beer, then nearly every Real Housewife came out with her own Pinot Grigio.
Just recently, Ommegang Brewery teamed up with HBO to launch a series of brews based on the Game of Thrones series.
Now, AMC is getting in on the act with the announcement of Mad Cocktails, a chain of Mad Men-themed cocktail lounges at two dozen airports throughout the country. The big news?
The very first Mad Cocktails will launch at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport's Terminal 3. That means American Airlines and U.S. Airways passengers will be able to enjoy modern twists on the libations that Don Draper and Roger Sterling enjoyed.
Cocktails include the Dapper Don, a take on a classic Old Fashioned; Roger Sterling's Manhattan; Megan's Zou Bisou Bisou, a Champagne cocktail with a "kiss" of mint; and Peggy's Pink Squirrel.
All Mad Men cocktails are $12. The lounge will also feature a selection of craft beers and wines.
The lounge will be an exact replica of the offices of the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Advertising Agency, complete with "VIP lounging offices" where weary travelers can pass out in cubicles with couches. Mad Cocktails opens this Sunday, April 7 with a celebratory Mad Men watch party.
Carl Grimes, a spokesperson for the cocktail lounges, told Clean Plate Charlie that his idea was to choose locations where people could drink without the fear of getting into a car. "Most people will have a few cocktails then pass out on the plane or in our VIP lounging offices instead of being on the road. As long as pilots stay away from Mad Cocktails, the world will be a better place."
Oh, and if you're worried that all that drinking will cause you to miss your flight -- don't be concerned. Before entering the VIP lounging office to sleep off a drink, guests will be fitted with a shock collar equipped with a timer. When it's time to board you flight, a low dose of electrical current will gently waken passengers.
Makes you want to fly more often, doesn't it?
