Keeping up with the Joneses may be a crummy way to live, but if you're a restaurant in the brutally competitive South Florida market, not keeping up with your neighbors is a sure way to perish. And with West Palm's Clematis Street area full of bright and shiny new restaurant Joneses, keeping up is even more crucial.
All the more reason for local fave Palm Beach Café (206 S. Olive St., 561-659-4441) to buff up its look and menu with an eye to boosting its breakfast and lunch business. The reconfigured restaurant got a sleeker, more modern look while still retaining its trademark mural. The kitchen got a redo, a wrap-around counter with seating was added, and a spiffy new logo was designed.
The breakfast and lunch menus got a do-over too, with an expanded list of daily specials and additions like home-made meat loaf with mashed potatoes and veggies, barbecue pork loin sandwich, and French toast combo with eggs and bacon, ham, or sausage for a miserly $5.49 joining the usual roster of burgers, subs, and wraps.
Now the Joneses will need to keep up with them.
