Whatever you choose to do on New Year's Eve, please don't drink and drive. There's no worse way to start off 2011 than dead. Hangovers last a day or two, but dead, last time we checked, is a lot longer. 


Here's an idea: take the bus. Broward County Transit routes are bound to be filled with characters that night. Lampshade hats for all.

New Year's Eve with Memphis soul and New Orleans cuisine. Billy Vasquez

kicks off the eve at 3 pm till 8 pm with a jazz trio. At 9 pm the Bobby

Nathan Band plays Memphis Soul and Pop till 1 am. Regular menu and

prices. No Cover. 1,000 free parking spots. 


Diamond Strike

• Over the past years, the "Big Fat Greek New Years Celebration" at Athena By The Sea, 4400 Ocean Dr., Lauderdale by the Sea, 954-771-2900, http://www.yolorestaurant.com/home.html has been a big-ass party. Enjoy indoor/ outdoor dining as the whole block in front of this beachy restaurant will be closed. There'll be live music and a belly dancer. Food includes flaming cheese appetizers, surf and turf, and a bottle of champagne for $75 per person.
