A "casual neighborhood bar" just a few steps off Delray's bustling Atlantic Avenue is now dishing cold beer, strong drink, DIY pizza and overstuffed sandwiches, courtesy of former Ohio restaurateur Adam Knoblock.
Located in the old Vertigo sushi space, three-week-old Off the Ave Food & Spirits (19 SE Fifth Ave., 561/450-6768) seeks to be something of an antidote to the high-end cuisine and high-end prices of many Atlantic Avenue eateries.
"Keep it simple and good" is Knoblock's motto about his short menu of
pizzas (whole and by the slices), salads, snacks and sandwiches that
range from roasted turkey and pastrami to Philly cheesesteak and
meatballs with marinara and mozzarella.
Off the Ave sports an
artfully funky look, with an L-shaped bar backed by a sandblasted brick
wall, plus a handful of small tables and couches to accommodate 39
hungry and thirsty diners. There's an all-day happy hour too, in case
you're hungry and thirsty before those other guys on the Avenue get it
going.
