The South Florida-based artisan doughnut and coffee shop has expanded into Palm Beach County, opening its second location at 126 NE Second St. in the Royal Palm Place shopping plaza south of Mizner Park. The 1,000-square-foot shop also serves specialty coffee roasted especially for Rhino.

The Sunrise store, which opens later this week, will be located at 8085 W. Oakland Park Blvd.

According to cofounder Tom Prakas, the Boca Raton shop has already experienced a successful soft opening.

"The first few days, we completely sold out by 10 a.m. and have already had to up our delivery from 800 to about 1,000 doughnuts for that store," says Prakas.

Rhino's doughnuts are prepared daily at an off-premises commissary kitchen located in Sunrise. The central hub allows Rhino to bake upward of 3,000 doughnuts each day, which are delivered to both the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and Boca Raton store, as well as several wholesale accounts.

"By not baking on-site at each location, it gives us more flexibility to open satellite stores and allows us to maintain consistency with our product," says Prakas, whose line of artisan doughnuts includes from-scratch ingredients like fresh frostings, toppings, and a number of fruit or cream fillings.

Moving forward, Prakas added that plans to offer doughnut and coffee delivery -- and open wholesale operations to additional South Florida accounts -- have been put on hold until the Sunrise kitchen can accommodate the growing demand for the chef-inspired selections.

"Since we bake fresh each day and only have a limited selection of each type, the earlier you get to the store, the better," says Prakas.

Rhino Doughnuts and Coffee Boca Raton is open daily starting at 7 a.m. Doors close when the store runs out of doughnuts, usually between 1 and 3 p.m.
