Rocco Mangel finally opened the doors the Las Olas location of Rocco's Tacos on Friday, February 18. There was a private cocktail party before the eatery officially opened to the public around 8 p.m. Guests started to arrive at 5:30 p.m. and had access to an open bar and tasty hors d'oeuvres. The décor inside features brightly painted walls, elaborate star-encrusted hanging chandeliers, Mexican memorabilia, wooden furniture, and rustic plank floors to match.
Multiple rounds of margaritas and shots of tequila were being passed out like hotcakes, along with tasty Mexican favorites such as quesadillas and fried-stuffed peppers -- and of course, unlimited servings of Rocco's famous tortilla chips and freshly prepared guacamole.
The night started out with a DJ spinning upbeat tunes, followed by a live mariachi band.
Eventually, Rocco made his way atop the bar and performed his famous tequila dance as he poured friends and guests shots of tequila. As all the seats filled up, people started to dance and crowd the bar area.
By 8 p.m., there was a long line wrapped around the side of the restaurant with eager people waiting to take part in the evening full of music, drinks, and celebration. The line lingered, since people were not exactly quick to leave.
