Surf 'n' turf the Japanese way has come to West Boynton in the form of Sawa Hibachi Steakhouse & Sushi (10817 S. Jog Rd., 561-375-9292), a sleek new eatery from New Yorker Jacky Chen, who also owns a Japanese-slash-sushi restaurant in the Big Apple.

At the heart of Sawa

are its eight hibachi tables, each seating nine and with a grill tended

by its own chef. Grillable items are about what you'd expect--beef,

chicken, shrimp, scallops, lobster--which can be had by themselves or in

varying combinations, almost all under $20. They all come with soup,

salad, veggies, appetizer, rice and two sauces.

The 150-seat

restaurant also boasts a sushi bar, dispensing all the usual sushi and

sashimi suspects, albeit at quite reasonable prices. There's also a

roster of familiar Japanese dishes, from tempura and teriyaki to

assorted noodle preparations and specialties like lemongrass and

thyme-crusted rack of lamb with Japanese plum sauce.

Monday

through Saturday lunch specials are a particularly good deal, with

various sushi rolls and combos and a handful of cooked dishes for from

$9 to $15.
