Lily is an adorable hot pink muppet in a little blue dress. Lily is also very hungry.
In a departure from the usual songs about the ABCs, Sesame Street aired a special last evening on childhood hunger.
Growing Hope Against Hunger introduced Lily, a muppet girl who said her family sometimes has to get food from the local food bank.
The show, which featured country singer Brad Paisley; his wife, Kimberly;
Elmo; and Super Grover, also highlighted real children who both use
food banks and who volunteer at them.
According to Growing Hope Against Hunger, almost 17 million children in the United States (about one in four kids) don't know where their next meal is coming from.
The show tells the story of childhood hunger without scaring the kids it
was meant for. It could also empower children to not be ashamed to take
advantage of local food programs at churches and schools. And that's a
powerful message.
