Slainte Irish Pub & Kitchen was planning a grand re-opening party on Wednesday, December 19 when the tragedy at Sandy Hook school happened.

That's when the owners, Francis and Rosa Feeney, parents of small children themselves, decided to cancel the opening party and turn it into a fundraiser to help the families of the children and adults that were killed last Friday.

On Wednesday, December 19, instead of the usual party, Slainte Irish Pub & Kitchen will hold an all-day fundraiser, with 100% of all proceeds benefiting the United Way of Western Connecticut, which has set up a special Sandy Hook School Support Fund.

From 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., come out to Slainte for their community lunch, where you'll receive a free mini shepherd's pie, mini bangers, and a free draft beer (one per person). Donations will be accepted. Live entertainment and a moment of silence with bagpipes will mark the occasion.

From 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., Slainte will host a bar fundraiser, with free tastings from the new menu, and limited free wine and spirits. Live entertainment and a moment of silence with bagpipes will be repeated in the evening.

If you're a late night person, you can still contribute to the cause. The pub will be open until 2 a.m., and all proceeds through last call will benefit the special United Way fund.
