The closure comes as partners Mark Uffer and Erik Frasco opened a much larger and grander Smokehouse in West Boca, one almost three times larger than the Federal Hwy. outlet with the capacity to smoke-cook almost 2,000 pounds of meat at once.
The new restaurant is the prototype for more Smokehouses in the area; sites on PGA Boulevard, and in Kendall and Pembroke Pines are under consideration, though nothing's been finalized yet. Charlie will sit down with Uffer sometime next week to get more info, but for now, if you're hungry for his slow-cooked ribs, pulled pork and brisket, you'll have to trek on over to the corner of Yamato Road and State Route 7.
And in other Boca barbecue news, it seems that biz wasn't so bizzy for another North Fed 'cue joint, Rib Bizz. The website is down, the restaurant's phone is "not currently accepting calls," and word is the place is gone. . . like a puff of, well, smoke.
