Maybe you're a former English major with a refined palate looking to jump into food writing for the first time. Or maybe you're an experienced freelance journalist who's looking to turn your talents in a new direction. Perhaps you are someone with some food, beverage, or hospitality expertise who also happens to have a way with words.

Or, hell, maybe you just read articles about food and restaurants and chefs and beer and think, "They actually pay people to do this!?"

They do! We do, in fact. New Times Broward-Palm Beach is looking for good, reliable freelance writers to cover the ever-evolving food and restaurant scene here in South Florida.

From interviewing award-winning chefs, reviewing cookbooks, and waxing poetic about your favorite local dish to dishing on all things craft beer, freelance food writers get to do (and taste) it all.

We are looking for well-read writers who are up on their local food trends, can name at least one local chef who isn't Clay Conley, and enjoy dining out whenever possible.

You should be able to meet deadlines, adhere to word-count and style requirements, enjoy the use of an Oxford comma, and have a command of basic English grammar rules. You should also be open to criticism, editing, and feedback.

Most important, if you cannot passionately answer the question, "What's your favorite local restaurant?" move along. This is not the job for you.

Please email me, Food Editor Rebecca McBane, at [email protected]. If you actually expect a response, include clips/writing samples, your résumé, and a story pitch.
