T-Mex Cantina Closes; Tacocraft Taqueria & Tequila Bar Coming Soon

Longtime Himmarshee establishment, T-Mex Cantina, has closed it's doors. But don't worry -- not for long.

On January 2, expect to see a new and improved concept in its place: Tacocraft Taqueria & Tequila Bar, what is being touted as downtown Fort Lauderdale's very first taqueria with a chef-driven menu.

T-Mex Cantina owner Chuck Bergwin has partnered with Marc Falsetto, co-founder and partner of JEY Hospitality Group operating Himmarshee Public House and ROK:BRGR. Together, they plan to rebrand Himmarshee's Mexican restaurant with a more upscale approach.

According to Falsetto, Tacocraft will showcase modern interpretations on authentic street tacos using hand-crafted tortillas made on-premise daily, while the beverage program will be worthy of the tequila bar title. Expect a full liquor bar with over 100 tequilas, handcrafted margaritas, and dozens of Mexican beers -- as well as plenty of local brews sourced from across South Florida.

To keep the downtown urban feel the restaurant will showcase street art and hand painted murals, delivering a Miami "Wynwood" vibe, added Falsetto. Well-known street artist, Ruben Ubiera, has been commissioned to create urban elements and street-style graffiti art.

"We are excited to be opening a third concept in Himmarshee Village," said Falsetto. "We had a perfect opportunity to partner with [TMEX Cantina]. It's a perfect fit to compliment the street and our other two concepts."

Just one wish: we hope they'll still be offering T-Mex's awesome "stupid" hot sauce.

Tacocraft will open January 2, and is located at located at 204 SW 2nd St., in Fort Lauderdale.
