Ten Best Irish Pubs in Broward and Palm Beach

One of the greatest things about America is that we come together to celebrate a variety of cultures, traditions, and holidays, especially if great food and cold beer are involved. St. Patrick's Day definitely involves both those things, so out of respect, we are obligated to observe Irish culture this Thursday and scarf down some corned beef and wash it down with green beer. It's just the right thing to do.

Really, where the best place to do it is the only question you should be asking. Luckily for you, we've done all the research, so this Thursday, you can concentrate on all things green. Here are the ten best Irish pubs in Broward and Palm Beach. 

10. Mickey Byrne’s Irish Pub & Restaurant

Downtown Hollywood is as good of a place as any in South Florida to find yourself a proper Irish Pub. The area is diverse, vibrant, and full of charm. That's exactly where you will find Mickey Byrne's Irish Pub. Mickey's has mixed the feel of a traditional Irish Pub with the look of a classic American Pub, and the beer selections and cuisine tell the same store. Pints of Guinness pour next to traditional American Lagers at Mickey's, and the on the menu you'll find all your favorite bar foods mixed in with Irish (and Irish-American) classics such as shepherd's pie and corned beef sammies.

Maguire's is owned and operated by people actually from Ireland, so you know you're in good hands here. Oddly, people not only rave about Maquire's traditional Irish cuisine such as fish and chips but also the chicken pot pie. Known for live music and tented festival-like events, especially around St. Patrick's Day, Maguire's is as festive as they come if you're looking to dive into as much Irish culture as possible.

Finnegan's Irish-heavy menu includes dishes such as bangers and mash (a sausage, onions, and mashed-potato concoction), drunken chicken (chicken flame-broiled in Irish whiskey), a sandwich called the Dublin Dip, corned beef and cabbage, and BBQ Guinness wings — yeah, it sounds like they have "Irish" covered. Outside of your favorite green beer or Guinness stout, Finnegan's offers drinks such as the Dublin by Night, a Jameson Black Barrel Whiskey and Kahlua mix that is shaken and strained; and a Joe Sheridan Irish Coffee, a hot coffee drink laced with Jameson Irish Whiskey and topped with lightly whipped cream. 


7. Paddy Mac's

If a half-and-half pint and a properly seared steak is your bag, Paddy Mac's is the Irish Pub for you. Patrons swear that the Guinness somehow tastes better than anywhere else at Paddy Mac's, but you'll have to be the judge of that. Authentic, quaint, and diverse in its menu, Mac's provided a little something for even the most out-of-his-element customer. From prime rib and potatoes to Irish potato soup, Paddy Mac's menu is jam-packed with Irish pub cuisine you'll know and enjoy. As always, try the corned beef; it's delish. 

6. The Field Irish Pub & Eatery

It might be easy to miss Field's Irish Pub due to its location between I-95 and the turnpike, but you should seek it out. Creations such as Black and Tan batter-fried onion rings, house-made potato soup, and a comforting meatloaf that will remind you of your mom are available daily. A past winner of New Times' award for Best Poured Guinness in South Florida, Field's does Irish right. You can either nestle next to the fireplace inside or spread out and play drinking games on the large patio. Whatever you do, you'll enjoy it. 



5. The Dubliner
435 Plaza Real in Mizner Park, Boca Raton

An Irish Pub famous for its gooey mac and cheese? That might be a place you need to check out. Located on the west end of Mizner Park, Dub's provides a spectacular drinking atmosphere that includes music at just the right level, traditional Irish cuisine, plenty of brews to choose from, and lots of TVs to watch a soccer match or football game. Thick-cut fries and corned beef and corned beef sandwiches can be spotted on just about every table for a reason. It's the pub's best menu item. 


4. McSorley’s Beach Pub

Looking for more of an Irish club than an Irish pub? McSorley's might be the move. Located on the beach, McSorley's combines a tourist/spring-break vibe with that of an authentic Irish pub. While the pints are flowing in the main barroom, a DJ might be spinning upstairs on the deck. McSorley's is a nice switch-up from the usual Irish pub experience in that you're not pigeonholed into plopping on a barstool and drinking a Guinness in the dark. 

3. O'Shea's Irish Pub

The main draw at O'Shea's is its beer garden, a wonderful little nook where patrons can down everything from Irish Car Bomb shots to Guinness stouts. Customers can play beer pong next to their pets in the beer garden; where else can you say that? Pool tables and neon signs populate the main bar room, where you're sure to find a party, especially on Thursday nights. If you're not into Irish grub and just want a normal old bar snack, the wings are fantastic. 


2. Waxy O'Connor's

Corned beef and Irish beers — that's what Waxy O'Connor's does. What else did you expect? All Irish-pub goodness you know and love, mixed with the feel of a sports bar, is what you'll find at Waxy's, which is why it's become the place to watch UFC fights — especially those of their countryman, Colin McGregor. What isn't expected is at Waxy's is the off-the-beaten-path menu items, like mahi-mahi tacos. That's what sets this Irish pub apart from the pack.
