Lindsey Nick is a 17-year-old senior at Highlands Christian Academy. In September, she came down with symptoms that resembled a cold and flu. Things went from bad to worse, and on September 12, she was admitted to the pediatric ICU at Broward General in severe respiratory distress.
Lindsey's loved ones say that
she juggles school, volleyball, and a job. From them: "The cause remains unknown, and the
diagnosis has varied as her condition progressed. The current diagnosis
is Interstitial Pneumonitis. The inflammation in her lungs has begun
healing, but it is unclear as to the extent of the damage. An initial
pathology report indicated severe fibrosis (scar tissue). A second
report indicated otherwise. We are awaiting a third opinion from the
experts at Texas Children's Hospital which will hopefully give us a
better understanding. While we hope and pray that her lungs heal
completely, her long term prognosis remains unclear."
The proprietors at Sicilian Oven in Lighthouse Point -- we gave them our Best Pizza award this year -- are donating 15 percent of all sales today and tomorrow; they will also host a silent auction and raffle tomorrow from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Neighbors will hold a garage sale on November 13 to raise money for her; and donors can write checks to a trust account set up for her at Wachovia Bank.
