We're not sure if you've noticed, but our food system and way of eating is pretty freaking messed up. We're supposedly the first generation in history whose lives are going to be shorter than our parents due to our terrible diets.

Yes, we're extremely busy with little or no time to cook, but, unfortunately, lack of skill in the kitchen and diets of cheap and easy fast foods are leading to skyrocketing numbers in heart disease and diabetes.

Luckily, there's a revolution on the rise: one that is trying to take back our food. Today is the second annual Food Revolution Day, created last year by none other than the cute English chef trying to force kids to eat healthy foods in school, Jaime Oliver.

Started last year by Chef Oliver, Food Revolution Day is about taking back our food system by relearning basic cooking skills. The day focuses on raising awareness on the importance of good food and good food education.

According to the Food Revolution Day website,

"Cooking skills used to be passed down from generation to generation, but now millions of people lack even the most basic cooking skills. We need to get back to basics: to cook and eat fresh local produce; to share cooking skills and food knowledge; to join forces within communities and get as many people involved as possible. Food Revolution Day is our opportunity to get the world to focus on the importance of good food and essential cooking skills, by rallying our efforts to empower people with better cooking skills and to inspire them to cook fresh food from scratch."

Last year more than 1,000 events took place in 664 cities spread throughout 62 countries. The event is said to have reached over 14.6 million people through social media.

This year 572 public and 511 private activities have been scheduled throughout the world.

Here are the list of South Florida events:
