Oce upon a time, American were get grossed out by the whole raw fish thing. Over the past few decades, sushi has become the food of choice for anyone looking to stay away from the typical fried food commonly found when going out to eat. However, the Japanese staple can be kind of expensive.
Today is International Sushi Day and to celebrate, we put together a list of five inexpensive sushi places in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The chain is known for making some headway in the sushi department. In fact, it declared International Sushi Day a holiday on Chase's Calendar of Events back in 2010. And it offers an awesome happy hour program. From 3 to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, happy hour includes a large list of rolls, tapas, and sushi for just $2.25 to $7.25.

Sometimes you're more into the idea of high-quality sushi without the pretense of a fancy restaurant. That's why you head to Sasaya. More of a market than an eatery, the small storefront has two small, bar-height communal tables and some of the best sushi you can find in Broward county. Five bucks gets you a huge plate of popular sushi rolls, like spicy tuna and JB. California rolls are just $3.50. Looking for a night alone on the couch? The store also has a nice selection of sake, to-go.

Every now and then, it's all about the options. With two chic locations, take-out, delivery, and banging happy hour, Kabuki has got you covered. From 3 to 7 p.m. everyday, the spot offers a happy hour menu that ranges from four to six bucks -- cocktails are half-price, beer is just $2.50, and sake bombs are three bucks. Lunch sushi combos start around $13.

If you're looking for inexpensive, fresh, and fast sushi -- yes, odd combo, we know -- check out Sushi One. Situated on the corner of Broward and US1, the spot serves locals and the downtown office crowd good sushi without the frills. California rolls start under four bucks. Bento boxes served with a side of rice and miso soup start under $6. It's pretty cheap, fast, and good; the only problem is finding is seat.

Located just west of the Intracoastal in Deerfield Beach, Thai Sushi Express offers some of the cheapest, most creative rolls in north Broward. Sashimi starts off at under a buck. A nice selection of hand rolls goes for $3.50 a piece. And most of the menu rings in at under ten bucks. It's definitely a steal.
