If your version of a great Sunday afternoon is more about eating green than drinking green (as in food coloring in your beer), then we suggest heading out to Swank Farms on Saint Patrick's Day to celebrate the Wearin' o' the Green... Salad.
This adults-only lunch features some of South Florida's best chefs each pitching in to prepare Irish-themed courses paired with fine wines.
The event, which benefits the Red Cross, will be held at Swank Farms on Sunday, March 17, from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets cost $150 each and available by wait list only by calling 561-202-5648.
Participating chefs include Jim Leiken, chef de cuisine at Cafe Boulud;
Michael Wurster, executive chef at Malcolm's at the
Omphoy Resort & Spa; Arnaud Chavigny, executive pastry chef at Cafe
Boulud; Clay Conley, chef/owner at Buccan & Imoto; and Lindsay
Autry, resident chef at Swank Table and executive chef at Sundy House.
Wines will be curated by Stephanie Miskew, a local wine educator and
writer.
The event will start with a welcome tour of the farm and butler
passed hors d'oeuvres prepares by each chef. The luncheon then continues
under a long tent with rows of communal seating, with each chef
preparing two dishes, served family-style, featuring Swank produce and
local and sustainable proteins.
Jodi Swank of Swank Specialty Produce said that the menu will
focus on both traditional and reimagined Irish food. "Two of our chefs,
Clay Conley and Michael Wurster, have Irish grandparents, so they are
playing with boxty, corned beef and cabbage, and other great Irish
touchstone dishes. Judith Olney, our creative director, is including
many Irish traditions in the event, and we have a wonderful singer,
Hilary O'Leary, as a musical guest."
Swank told Clean Plate Charlie that this is their second-annual
event to honor the Red Cross. "They give so much at times of trouble
that it is a pleasure to give back to them a bit."
Swank also
added that in the spirit of giving, guests will receive some
special gifts. "Our prizes this year will include restaurant gift
certificates, food items, and books for those who have the luck of the
Irish and find some hidden presents in our traditional Colcannon potato
dish."
