One hundred people will have the opportunity to win free chicken for a year on September 9 through Chick-fil-A's "First 100" promotion as Deerfield Beach gets its first stand-alone location. The closed-on-Sunday chicken chain generally opens to a great deal of fanfare, and this opening will be no exception. For 24 hours, the parking lot will be turned into a minifestival as hungry devotees line up, camping out in tents and posting selfies.

The 4,000-square-foot Deerfield location will have free Wi-Fi, a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m., indoor seating for 133, and patio seating for 12. This is owner/operator Brent Baillio's second location. A South Florida native, Baillio grew up in Coral Springs and attended Stoneman Douglas High School and FAU. His first job was at the Chick-fil-A at the Coral Square Mall. Before becoming a franchisee himself, Baillio worked for the company as a grand-opening supervisor, so expect this "community friendly" opening campout to be everything it should be.

But on to the most important thing: How do I win free Chick-fil-A for a year?

The rules are simple: Be one of the 100 eligible adults (read 18 and over, with identification) in line 24 hours before the doors officially open at 6 a.m. Wednesday, September 9. If more than 100 people are already gathered by 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 8 — and yes, this does happen — the "First 100" will be determined by a drawing from among those present. You'll still need to camp out the 24 hours, though, to actually claim your prize, a "digital offer card" that comes preloaded with 52 meals and can be used once a week for a year.

One more thing — since this is the Deerfield Beach Chick-fil-A, the free meals are intended to go to members of that community. As such, you must live within the following zip codes (and be prepared to prove it with your ID) to win:
33004, 33019, 33020, 33021, 33024, 33060, 33061, 33062, 33063, 33064, 33065, 33066, 33067, 33068, 33069, 33071, 33072, 33073, 33074, 33075, 33076, 33077, 33093, 33097, 33301, 33302, 33303, 33304, 33305, 33306, 33307, 33308, 33309, 33310, 33311, 33312, 33313, 33314, 33315, 33316, 33317, 33318, 33319, 33320, 33321, 33322, 33323, 33324, 33325, 33326, 33328, 33329, 33334, 33335, 33336, 33337, 33338, 33339, 33340, 33345, 33346, 33348, 33349, 33351, 33355, 33359, 33388, 33394, 33424, 33425, 33426, 33427, 33428, 33429, 33431, 33432, 33433, 33434, 33435, 33436, 33437, 33441, 33442, 33443, 33444, 33445, 33446, 33448, 33462, 33472, 33473, 33474, 33481, 33482, 33483, 33484, 33486, 33487, 33488, 33496, 33497, 33498, 33499

But this isn't all about you and your dream of winning free, delicious chicken. The new restaurant will also be accepting donations of children's books from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, and from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. September 9 and 10. The books collected will be donated to Quiet Waters Elementary School in the form of a nearly three-foot Book House built of upcycled wood as a kind of free exchange library from which anyone can take a book, as long as they donate another to replace it.

Chick-fil-A in Deerfield will be located at 3648 W. Hillsboro Blvd. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Visit Chick-fil-a.com or facebook.com/CFAHillsboro
