As events regarding the Boston Marathon bombing suspects continue to unfold, there is some positive news in one case close to our hearts here at Clean Plate Charlie and New Times Broward-Palm Beach.
Long-time freelance writer and food blogger, Tricia Woolfenden, was personally affected by the tragedy in Boston when members of her own family were injured in the blast at the finish line.
Her brother Stephen Woolfenden and his three-year-old son were injured in the explosion. Tricia is a close friend of many of us here in the newsroom and we anxiously awaited news of her family's welfare.
Word came this morning that the three-year-old boy has been released from the hospital.
The Woolfenden family have, understandably, asked that the media respect their privacy. The story of the young boy's release from Boston Children's Hospital appeared on the New York Times website earlier this morning.
The family has released this official statement:
The Woolfenden family wants to take this opportunity to thank the Boston Police and Fire, emergency response personnel, BAA staff and volunteers, and all of the runners and spectators who selflessly rushed in to help as the events of Monday's tragedy unfolded. We also want to thank Novartis, the city of Salem, the North Shore area, the entirety of Boston, Salem Five Bank, the FBI and federal agents, the Wicked Running Club, the entire international running community, and the thousands upon thousands of friends and strangers who have offered so much support and hope in this difficult time. The medical community and hospital staffs in this city are beyond compare and we are grateful for the excellent care provided to our loved ones.Our thoughts remain with the fellow victims and their families during this difficult time.
At this time, the family would ask that the media respect our wishes for privacy as we focus on healing together and moving forward from these events.
While we breathe a momentary sigh of relief for at least one member of the Woolfenden family, our thoughts remain with Tricia, her brother Stephen, and every other innocent person affected by this horrible and senseless tragedy.
