  • Marlins Release Plans for Dark Helmet Stadium, Cloned Dogs to Play in Boca

The Florida Marlins have released the final plans on a $515 million retractable-roof stadium. Hoping to convince lawmakers to approve the plans, architects apparently cut corners on things like aesthetics and looks and curb appeal. It's not that the Marlins stadium will be the ugliest thing in Little Havana; it's just that it looks like it belongs in this 1980s commercial:The sliver lining here is that I finally have another use for my Dark Helmet outfit. I'll be slapping a Marlins symbol on it

myfloridahouse.govAdam Hasner... silent Muslim? State Rep. Adam Hasner kinda freaked out when he learned that followers of the Islamic faith were going to visit Tallahassee, where he works. Also, these people were going to talk.It seems that in order to face down this menace, the Boca Raton Republican wants to organize a Jewish... caucus? League? Coalition? Bris? Whatever! Just a bunch of non-Muslims who can stand around Hasner so he doesn't have to face the Muslims alone, for God's sake. As the

  • Hockey Brawler's Pop Gets Queasy

Most every hockey fan enjoys the clash of a few goons, but imagine how the goons' parents feel. Here's an article about Boca Raton resident Gilles Roy, a project manager for a South Florida construction firm, who can hardly bear to watch his son in action.``Nobody in their right mind who loves their children wants to see them in this type of predicament. You don't want them to get hurt.``Every time they fight, I just cringe. My stomach gets very tense. I'm very nervous. I don't like to see it.''

  • Swine Flu Hysteria Traced Back to Ham Sandwich

Here they come, dum, dum, da-dum, da-dum... I don't know if you guys have heard about this thing called the swine flu, but apparently it's pretty serious business. So serious, that serious businesses around South Florida are getting serious (and delirious) about enacting plans to prevent their employees from coming down with the dreaded virus. Unfortunately, saying that some of these strategies aren't exactly watertight is like saying the Titanic hit a big piece of ice. To wit: An employee at a

The Burlington County Times reports that our locals are getting a lesson in child activism:"My daughter told me I should come over and sign the petition, and before doing that I thought I should educate myself a little bit.

  • Health Care Demonstrators in Boca Eerily Calm

Yesterday in Boca Raton, demonstrating for health care reform. Now there's a thought! Also, interesting strategy not to mob a town hall meeting and chant about how we should deprive immigrants of health care.  Now compare that political participation with the style that health care opponents practiced this week in Tampa -- video after the jump.

  • Restaurant News: Olives Going Wild in Boca, I'm Greek Today in Royal Palm Beach, Gulf Oysters Get a Reprieve

    •    By Dec. 1, Todd English's Wild Olives in Boca Raton should be going full bore. The former Opus 5 is currently transitioning to Wild Olives' Mediterranean-esque menu, with the full dinner menu said to be in place by Tuesday, Nov. 24, and lunch a week later. A few items on the menu: crispy skin Florida snapper, porcini-crusted organic chicken, house-made veal agnolotti and English's signature "carpetbagger oysters," fried bivalves with beef carpaccio and truffled whipped p
