  • Abrams: Time To Give Readers "Recession 101"

On the day the company declares Chapter 11 bankruptcy, Tribune's Chief Innovation Officer, Lee Abrams, issues a "think piece" to staff in which he says Tribune newspapers must "own" the recession: THE RECESSION: Discussion on we should position our papers and TV as the vehicles that helps people through the recession. Well, I'm surprised that this is even being debated...BUT--- Talking about it and AFDI'ing* are two different things. The "series" approach I mentioned to them below might w

  • Nicaraguan Pot Endorses This Post, The Donald Is a Downer, Big Ball Cuts Corners

After watching last night's Pepsi Cola-Bud Light Super Bowl, it became clear to me that everything needs an official sponsor. So today's Morning Juice is brought to you by the Nicaraguan Tourism and Marijuana Growers Cooperative. It's good timing to land that sponsor too, because they just picked up a big-time celebrity endorsement with Michael Phelps. Remember, kids, if you want to win, like, 47 gold medals at the Olympics, be sure to smoke your Nicaraguan marijuana from a water bong. And there'

  • Abrams: WSFL Morning Show Will Revolutionize TV

I haven't even been posting all the Lee Abrams think pieces lately because they've gotten to be so dull. But this one, which I received several days ago, well, it's worth sharing. Why? It's about the Tribune Co./Sun-Sentinel morning show on WSFL. I haven't weighed in about the show for the same exact reason that I haven't been sharing the think pieces, but suffice it to say it's still not quite stellar. I haven't watched it much, but I sort of keep tabs on it, and it seems to be floundering

  • Pete Boinis: Asshole Of The Week

BoinisThe Pulp's Asshole of the Week (so I stole an idea from Larry Flynt, what are you gonna do, shoot me?) is Pete Boinis. He's the guy that cordoned off his swath of land next to the Deerfield Beach Pier with a bunch of poles and then had "No Trespassing" signs up. e Deerfield Beach Pier. This is just rude -- a bunch of ugly Keep Out signs sitting next to one of the most popular beach spots in north Broward County? Why'd he do it? Out of spite.

  • No Recession on Clematis: Downtown WPB Gets Areperia, Pizza Joint

Photo by Flickr user ulterior epicureArepas, hopefully as pretty as these, will headline a new joint on Clematis.Recession, you say? Apparently not on Clematis Street, where despite a dining economy that has many restaurateurs contemplating an easier line of work, like shipping out on a tramp steamer to Bolivia, the hits just keep on coming. Two new spots have opened up on the street, both admittedly in the "fast casual" segment of the market:Hot Pie Pizza (123 Olive St., 561-655-2511) uses a
