Generally, when you see a group of adults attempting to alter their appearance to look exactly the same, cult is the word that springs to mind -- no one will ever forget those matching sweatsuits and Nikes from the '90's.

In just a couple of weeks, more than 30 individuals with be gathering at Duffy's Sports Grill on Clematis to chop off their locks.

And this time it's all for a good cause.

Akerman LLP is partnering with St. Baldrick's Foundation for the second year-in-a-row for a community head shaving event to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer.

Starting at noon on Wednesday, March 12, ESPN Radio's Josh Cohen will be broadcasting live for the start of the event.

At 4 p.m., more than 30 Akerman lawyers and staff as well as members of the public will start lining up for their buzz cuts.

The goal is to attempt to raise $60 thousand for cancer research and to bring attention to childhood cancer patients who have lost their hair through chemotherapy.

"Serving the special needs of the community is part of our long-standing tradition at Akerman, and we're diving into this effort 'head-first'," says Eric Gordon, office managing partner of Akerman's West Palm Beach office. "We began this effort last year and it was initially inspired by a member of the Akerman family. Ava, the very young daughter of one of our lawyers was diagnosed with an advanced stage of an aggressive childhood cancer - neuroblastoma, and has undergone intensive treatment. Thanks in large part to organizations like the St. Baldrick's Foundation, Ava is now cancer-free. We are doing our part to make sure that thousands of other children that have been diagnosed with cancer have a chance to grow and lead amazing lives."

Throughout the event Duffy's will be donating ten percent of all food and drink sales to St. Baldrick's Foundation.

So far, Akerman has raised $15 thousand of its $60 thousand goal.
