The food and drink event calendar in South Florida is pretty quiet this week, and with the weather taking a dive, it's a good time to hunker down with your couch and streaming Netflix (try this list of five Florida-based movies). By the weekend, it will be time to party down for Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby, plus a few other indoor events. Read on after the jump for a look at some food and drink events this week and weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties. 

Tuesday:

The Flavors of Italy -- Cheese Culture in Fort Lauderdale will host an Italian cheese and wine tasting at 7 p.m. in the shop's tasting room. Admission is $45 per person. Call 954-533-9178.

Wednesday:


Food truck rally in Boca Raton -- Gourmet Truck Expo will host a food truck rally from 6 to 9 p.m. at Boomers in Boca Raton. The event will include more than 25 food trucks, like Ms. Cheezious, The Fire Within, The Rolling Stove, Che Grill, Kona Ice, and Divan Bakery, among others.

Thursday:

Italian cooking classes at Chef Jean-Pierre's Cooking School
-- Learn four recipes from the "New Italian Menu" at Chef Jean-Pierre's Cooking School, with dishes like sausage spaghetti carbonara, minced chicken and ham rotolo, and caramelized white chocolate risotto. The class is at 7:30 p.m. and costs $65 per person

Saturday:


Cinco de Mayo celebrations -- Every Mexican bar and restaurant -- and many restaurants from other genres, like the Biergarten Boca Raton -- will host Cinco de Mayo events throughout the day with drink specials and various degrees of partying. Stay tuned: Clean Plate Charlie will post a complete list of Cinco de Mayo activities in South Florida later this week. 

Derby Day at Tap 42 -- Break out your most outrageous hat and head to Tap 42 for a Kentucky Derby party starting at 2 p.m. Specials include $5 Wild Turkey mint juleps and happy hour pricing from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
