On Monday, April 6, craft beer's own superstar Sam Calagione, founder of Dogfish Head Brewery, will be coming down to South Florida to brew some beer with Funky Buddha Brewery.

The high-profile brew day will be a repeat of last year, when the Funky Buddha crew traveled up to Delaware in late winter to brew a small batch of Nano Nano, an imperial porter brewed with cocoa, smoked habanero peppers, black strap molasses, and sea salt harvested from both the Florida and Delaware coasts. Unfortunately for us at the time, there was only enough brewed to supply the Rehoboth Beach brewpub in Delaware.

Now Florida will get a chance to sample this sweet, hot, and salty brew.

"We're brewing a 30BBL batch," Funky Buddha's brand director John Linn tells us. "Pending that we will be making enough to do a good-sized bottle release and draft to distribution." There is no release date yet solidified, so beer fans will have to keep an eye out for an announcement.

As for April 6, Dogfish Head and Funky Buddha will be rolling out some amazing kegs to celebrate the renewed and continued collaboration. Calagione will also be mingling about the crowd, chatting it up with all those enthusiasts in attendance.

The event will be open to the public and begin at 6 p.m. and will feature food from Rolling Chefs, Chacos Chinese Tacos, and others. Expect dishes like plum-and-chili-glazed duck wing and stonefruit shrimp and grits.

The current tap list is as follows and includes rarities such as a cask of DFH 75 Minute, Heaven Hill barrel aged Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, and a 2011 Black & Blue among others:
  • Dogfish Head Namaste
  • Dogfish Head Festina Peche
  • Dogfish Head Burton Baton
  • Dogfish Head Black & Blue – 2015
  • Dogfish Head Aprihop
  • Dogfish Head Sixty One
  • Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
  • Dogfish Head 75 Minute - Cask
  • Dogfish Head Black & Blue – 2011
  • Dogfish Head Palo Santo – 2014
  • Dogfish Head Festina Lente
  • Funky Buddha Heaven Hill Barrel-Aged Morning Wood (Imperial MBCP)
  • Funky Buddha More Moro
  • Funky Buddha Last Snow
  • Funky Buddha Uncle Vucub's
  • Funky Buddha Rum Barrel Imperial Pina Colada
  • Funky Buddha Key Lime Berlinerweise
  • Funky Buddha Cabernet Barrel Stout with Cherries and Cocoa
  • Funky Buddha Bonita Applebum
  • Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter

"We've always felt welcomed with open arms," Linn says of their collaboration with Calagione and his team. "Whether it's by the entire Dogfish Head family or being in Boston at Extreme and having Jim Koch walk behind the booth and start pouring beers with us.

"I think everyone in the craft beer world shares one thing in common right off the bat, which is our shared experience of being somewhat of the underdog, of fighting the good fight and trying to make a change with what you do. So whenever you meet someone in the industry, you already sort of have that common bond."
