Get lost in a beer or two at M Bar.

It's something of a quiet week in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, presumably because South Florida residents will be girding their loins -- and leaving time to pick up the lederhosen and dirndl from the dry cleaners -- for the onslaught of Oktoberfest and a litany of events calling for massive consumption of pickled vegetables and fermented wheat beverages. Expect to see plenty of those listings on Clean Plate Charlie in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here is a sprinkling of food and drink events this week in Broward and Palm Beach Counties:
Craft beer night at M Bar -- There are times when a can of cheap barley water will do -- an afternoon lazing on the beach comes to mind -- and then there is the rest of the time. M Bar caters to the latter principle on Tuesday nights when craft bottles and drafts are offered for $2 off between 5 and 9 p.m. Spring for the $8 sampling "paddle" and you can try a variety of suds before committing to one.
Cypress Creek Food Truck Roundup -- Get over the mid-week blahs by stuffing your gut with grub from food trucks at the Miami Food Truck roundup from 5 to 9:30 p.m. at 6001 Powerline Rd. Parking is free, but bring cash for the trucks, which as of Monday afternoon were set to include B.C. Tacos, The Cheese Steak Gourmet, The Chill Stop, Gypsy Kitchen, Latin Burger & Taco, Miso Hungry and Truckin' Good Pizza.
Sideways-themed Wine Tasting Event -- If 2004's Sideways left you feeling eternally abusive towards Merlot, you'll be pleased to know this wine tasting at Verdea Restaurant and Wine Bar in Palm Beach Gardens will feature four Pinots in addition to hors d'oeuvres. The film will show in the background and there will be no, ahem, Merlot served. The tasting is $25, cash only, and runs 6 to 8 p.m. Call 561-691-3130 for more details.
Celebrity Chef Demo w/ Chef Pepin -- Emeril isn't the only celeb chef to inject an explosion of personality into otherwise mundane kitchen tasks like mincing garlic and making soup stock, Latin culinary celebrity Chef Pepin has enthusiasm to spare (just watch any of his clips on YouTube and you'll see what I mean). Popular on Spanish-language television for many years, Chef Pepin will give a cooking demo at 6:30 p.m. at the Publix Apron's Cooking School in Plantation. The cost is $55 and the sooner you register, the better your chances of scoring a spot.
The Art of Brew -- If college orgs as cool as B.R.E.W. F.I.U. existed when I went to school, there's a chance I could've gotten my hands on liquid refreshment of a caliber much higher than the skunked Miller Lite served from a jostled keg that seemed to dominate the drinking scene in my day, but I digress. B.R.E.W. (Biscayne's Renowned Engineers of Wort), an "advanced" brew club of Florida International University students, will co-sponsor an interactive food, beer and art event from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Projects Space, 519 NW 1st. Ave, Fort Lauderdale. Tickets to the event, which benefits the in-progress Young at Art Museum, are $30 per person.
