Earth Day is Sunday, and according to Groupon, the planet will be celebrating its 400th birthday. After contemplating that failure in math and/or marketing humor, consider using this weekend to get out into the community and learn about ways to make an impact locally and globally, particularly when it comes to food consumption.

Earth Day events in South Florida include gardening seminars, lessons in composting, healthy food demos, farm tours, and other tree-hugger-approved activities. As a bonus, you may even get to eat some food or learn how to grow it.

After the jump, a look at Earth Day events in Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Drink special at Blue Martini in Boca Raton -- In honor of Earth Day, Blue Martini in Boca Raton will serve free samples of its new cucumber lemonade made with Crop Organic Cucumber Vodka. The special is 6 to 8 tonight.

Earth Day celebration at Marando Farms -- Marando Farms in Fort Lauderdale will host a celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with events like a farm tour, a presentation from GMO Free Florida and Millions Against Monsanto speaker Trish Sheldon, yoga, and presentations on healthy eating habits.

Pitchfork to Your Fork Dig In! -- Bedner's Farm Fresh Market will host an Earth Day gathering from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday with seminars on homebrewing, composting, wine pairings, and organic gardening. Some of the pairings you'll be able to sample for the $55 entry fee include lemongrass chicken served with a home-brewed lemongrass ginger wit, Napa Valley baked pasta with chardonnay, and goat cheese with sun-dried tomatoes, black olives, and an herb spread served with a tomato and thyme cocktail.

"The Raw Natural" movie screening -- While not an Earth Day event per se, this event is focused on the raw food movement, which certainly does place an emphasis on natural, holistic nutrition which typically is sustainable. The film -- which profiles high-caliber athletes that follow a raw diet -- will premiere at 7 p.m. Sunday at The Center for Inspired Living, 6800 Country Place Road, West Palm Beach. Tickets are $10.

Free gardening workshop -- Urban farming pioneer Michael Madfis of Fort Lauderdale Vegetables will lead a free workshop on basic backyard gardening from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Swinton Community Garden, 24 N Swinton Avenue, in Delray Beach.
