This is a great weekend for bacchanalian exploits in South Florida. Not only does South Florida Beer Week begin on Saturday, but big ticket events like JA World Uncorked and the Fort Lauderdale Bus Loop are set to pop. After the jump, find details on five food- and drink-related events this weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
5. Florida beer tap takeover at Riverside Market
Neighborhood hangout The Riverside Market is going local when it hosts a Florida Beer Company gathering tonight (Friday) starting at 7 p.m. The store will welcome the local debut of Gaspar's Porter and Devil's Triangle IPA, with Riverside acting as the first store in Fort Lauderdale to carry the new brews. There will be beer and food specials and live music. Gaspar's Porter is a robust porter last available in 2009. This represents a retooling of the beer which has a reformulated recipe and a sweet new logo and label. This is a must-do for fans of the Drink Like a Local movement.
4. Pig roast at Sybarite Pig
How fitting that the Sybarite Pig in Boca Raton has chosen an indulgent pig roast as its entry into South Florida Beer Week's activity roster. The roast is Sunday from noon to close, with a $30 ticket buying you all-you-can-eat pork with bread and special sauces, plus one Cigar City Brewing draft selection or two bottled beers from a special menu. The bar also will offer its regular menu at the regular prices, in case pork isn't your want; great craft brews available either way.
3. Food Truck Pile-Up
The Miami Dolphins; love 'em or leave 'em, they're what we've got. So why not party it up on their behalf at the Food Truck Pile-Up tonight (Friday) at the JM Lexus of Margate (5350 West Sample Rd.). The gathering is 5 to 10 p.m. with 17 food trucks rolling in to feed the football fans. AZ Canteen, Best French Fries, Dog Eat Dog, Lucille's on Wheels, and Slow Food Truck are among those scheduled to appear. Parking is free and the evening will include opportunities to have your photo taken with Dolphin cheerleaders and retired Dolphins. They'll also screen "More Than Perfect," the documentary about the 1972 undefeated season of the Dolphins.
2. The Fort Lauderdale Bus Loop
It's time again for the party bus to roll into town. The Fort Lauderdale Bus Loop rides again on Saturday with stops at places like Copacabana, American Social, The Office Bar (formerly the Speakeasy Saloon), YOLO, Lucky's Tavern, America's Backyard, Cafe Del Mar, Tarpon Bend, and Quarterdeck. Advance tickets are $30 if you purchase the ticket before noon on Saturday. The cost is $35 at the door. Get a free drink or food item at each venue. Drink cards are valid until 11 p.m. and check-in runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Check in at YOLO or The Office Bar. Call 954-574-6000.
1. JA World Uncorked
Drink and dine your way through the evening at JA World Uncorked on Saturday in the JA World Huizenga Center at Broward College in Coconut Creek. South Florida chefs like Paula DaSilva and Michael Saperstein will share their culinary treats, while craft beer, wine, and spirits flow like so much water. Tickets are $150 each. Call 954-979-7120.
