Five South Florida Food & Drink Events This Weekend: Stone Crab & Seafood Festival and More
In case the near-perfect weather forecasts for the weekend aren't enough to lure you out of the house, perhaps the chance to chow down and drink up in new and interesting ways will do the trick? After the jump, find a roundup of some of the food and drink activities taking place this weekend in Broward and Palm Beach counties, including grand opening parties for three new restaurants, a booze-fueled run, and more.
5. Oshogatsu New Year's Celebration
Ready to keep the New Year's party raging well beyond January 1? Morikami Museum and Gardens in Delray Beach has you covered with its belated Japanese New Year's celebration on Sunday. Admission is $6 to $15. There will be traditional tea ceremony presentations at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Outside, there's a Kirin beer garden and a sake station, plus vendors selling spring rolls, ramen and soba noodles, stir-fry, and other culinary treats.
4. Taste History Culinary Tour of Historic Lake Worth and Lantana
Sample small bites from local restaurants and pick up some new fun facts during the Taste History Culinary Tour. The second Saturday of every month the tour checks out locations in Lake Worth and Lantana. The tour starts at 11 a.m. and lasts three to four hours, hitting several restaurants and eateries, serving a variety of cuisine. Each tour's stops are a surprise and the lineup rotates often. The tour leaves at the east entrance of Macy's at the Boynton Beach Mall. Get tickets online.
3. Grand openings
Are you an early adopter? If so, this weekend packs in at least three grand opening events for restaurants in the Broward/Palm Beach area. Brooklyn Water Pizza & Pasta Co. and Brooklyn Water Bagels Co. celebrates its grand opening in Palm Beach Gardens. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the bagel store (located next door to the first-ever pizza franchise) will offer a free small coffee or beverage with a purchase. Tonight, The Beach Grille in Pompano Beach will host a grand opening party from 5 to 7 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:45 p.m. Entry to the event is free. On Sunday, VooDoo BBQ & Grill in Pembroke Pines will throw open its doors at 11 a.m. for special giveaways and other festivities in honor of the restaurant's grand opening.
2. Tap 'N' Run 4K Race
Registration for the Tap 'N' Run 4K Race -- which includes four beer-chugging stations -- is closed, but onlookers are welcome to join the sideline festivities in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The race begins at 2 p.m. at the intersection of SW Third Avenue and SW Second Street, where it also concludes. Party with the racers in Himmarshee at America's Backyard after the race.
1. Riverwalk Stone Crab and Seafood Festival
Seafood aficionados and novices alike are invited to swarm Riverwalk's Esplanade Park on Saturday afternoon for a free, family-friendly event. The Riverwalk Stone Crab and Seafood Festival is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature bites from ten to 15 local restaurants. They'll also have activities like a hermit crab race and a waitress competition.
