The three-day Labor Day weekend was in full swing this past Friday night at Elbo Room and the iconic beach bar was packed with the usual blend of locals, tourists, and partiers, all out to celebrate the start of a long holiday weekend.

A fight broke out between two men, and Elbo Room bouncer Christian Nunez was just doing the same job he'd been doing for about five years -- breaking up the fight, keeping peace at the bar, and throwing out anyone who got too rowdy or belligerent.

According to Local10.com, the fight turned dangerous when 50-year-old Gregory Burns

allegedly pulled out a gun when he was asked to leave around

10:30 p.m.

Gunshots were then heard, and police found Nunez on the

floor. Burns was detained at the scene and later charged with one

count of aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Fort Lauderdale

Police Detective DeAnna Garcia. It was also confirmed that the suspect

holds a valid concealed weapons permit.

Burns has since been released on bond.

Police, already out in

force in anticipation of the holiday weekend, acted immediately, and

Nunez was transported to the hospital. Nunez remains in critical but

stable condition.

A concert was held Sunday to raise money for Nunez's hospital bills.

So far, the efforts have raised more than $6,000. If you would like to assist in Nunez's recovery fund, you can through Give Forward.
