This May, Mellow Mushroom in Delray Beach is kicking off a gluten-free celebration of Celiac Disease Awareness Month with the launch of its new gluten-free pizza menu.
Today, more than 3 million Americans are affected by celiac disease -- a condition that can cause irritation and intestinal damage due to gluten intolerance eating wheat, barley, or rye. To find relief, following a gluten-free diet is the only way to go. So to make pizza -- or the dough that makes all pizza possible -- a more relevant dining option, Mellow Mushroom will be spotlighting several new "Magical Mystery Tour" pizzas that are all gluten-free.

The new pizzas will be introduced on Thursday, May 1, during a special event taking place at Mellow Mushroom Delray Beach from 5 to 8 p.m. During that time, guests will receive 20 percent off their check when they order a gluten-free item. Representatives from the South Florida Celiac Support Group will also be onsite to answer questions about celiac disease and to help explain the basics of adopting a diet free of gluten, the protein found in grains such as wheat, barley and rye.
Mellow Mushroom's unique vegan and gluten-free crust is made using Smart Flour, a Texas-based product that combines ancient grains like sorghum, amaranth, and teff -- an Ethiopian grain similar to millet and quinoa. In addition, all gluten-free toppings are stored separately to avoid cross-contamination, and the pizza featuring gluten-free dough is baked in an exclusively gluten-free oven.
If you're extra picky about gluten, Mellow Mushroom Delray Beach also carries a variety of gluten-free salad dressings and beer, including Redbridge and several cider beers.
