Pamper Your Pops: Top Three Places To Take Metrosexual Dads For Father's Day
Unlike moms, dads have it bad. Year after year, they keep getting the same gift over and over again on what is supposed to be their special day. There are only so many ugly ties a man can take. This year, it's time to realize that mom isn't the only parent who enjoys being pampered.
Men are no longer the grunting, brooding, flannel-clad apes of yesteryear. Today's dads come in all shapes and sizes, even the metrosexual variety, and as such, won't get much use out of that ugly tie, a drill bit set, or a cheap shaving kit. Metrosexual dads enjoy spa treatments and brunch, just like any other civilized person.
In honor of our forgotten fathers, we have put together the top three places to take papa this Father's Day where sweat, snot, and spit are not welcome -- unless you're in the steam room.
The old school elegance of Galuppi's gives dad the chance to pretend he's Don Draper and you are all his minions, eager to serve him hand and foot if just for the chance that he'll bestow a smirk on you. Of course this isn't true, but on Father's Day, you pretend it is.
Galuppi's offers two delicious opportunities to cater to dad's taste for elegance and medium-rare ribeye steaks. One is brunch ($29.95), which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers a carving station featuring prime rib and honey ham, crab claws, oysters, shrimp, an omelet station, a belgian waffle station, and other assorted breakfast meats, pastries, breads, and desserts. Galuppi's prime rib is particularly noteworthy.
Or, the whole fam can arrange for a private room and partake of the special Father's Day dinner menu. In addition to traditional menu items, special Father's Day dishes have been added, including coffee-rubbed New York strip and Chilean sea bass. Dinner service begins at 4:30 p.m.
"We have spectacular views and it's a great atmosphere for dads to enjoy," says manager, Jennifer.
Added bonus: Golf course.
Situated in the Sundy House hotel, the restaurant offers a relaxing and gorgeous ambience sure to please dad. You can eat indoors, but if the weather is agreeable, we suggest dining al fresco in the foliage-plenty garden area.
On Father's Day, expect some dad-esque additions to the popular Sunday brunch offerings ($68), specifically unlimited house beers. Don't worry females, Sundy House also offers unlimited champagne, mimosas, and bellinis.
Brunch is available from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and reservations are required. Expect breakfast favorites such as eggs benedict, waffles, and bacon, plus shrimp, oysters, smoked salmon, and salad and carving stations.
Added bonus: Barbecue station.
The dining room at the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa features two additional treats for dad. Enjoy the Father's Day brunch ($48) on the waterfront, with one of the most spectacular views in the city. Dine on oysters, shrimp cocktails, eggs benedict, ceviche, tuna tartare, made to order omelets, bacon, sausage, home fries, a craving station featuring prime rib and roasted turkey breast, a dessert station, and more. We were recently invited for brunch, and have to say that the tuna tartare is one of the best in the tricounty area. Make sure to keep dad socially lubricated with unlimited bloody marys, mimosas, and bellinis ($14).
After brunch, take Dad to the Si Spa for some of its signature "gentlemen's therapies" such as the gentlemen's signature facial, the rough Si resurfacing treatment, or the therapeutic deep Si massage, and stay to enjoy the heated relaxation rooms, heated marble beds, steam rooms, and whirlpool, complimentary with any treatment.
Dad will be full of good cheer after eating and drinking to his heart's content and having his muscles kneaded by an expert masseuse. After this kind of Father's Day, you can get away with "gifting" him atrocious neckties for a few more years, before you have to splurge again.
