Restaurant News: Caliente Kitchen Fires Up, Petite Marmite Goes Cold, Casa Mia Coming to Jupiter
• Delray's Atlantic Avenue will finally get the Mexican restaurant so many people have been waiting for with the debut next week of Caliente Kitchen (8 E. Atlantic Ave., no phone yet), a stylish and stylized eatery that takes over the old Taverna Eros space. Proprietor Taylor Smith hopes to take advantage of the former Taverna's nightlife crowd while also appealing to families and budget-minded aficionados of Mexican cookery.
• Though back in the day it was one of the hottest restaurants in tony Palm Beach, after moving to Palm Beach Gardens two years ago, time wasn't so kind to Petite Marmite, which closed up shop a couple of weeks back, reportedly due to -- what else? -- the crappy economy. No word on what, if anything, will replace the once-elegant continental eatery.
• You can't keep a good location down, or so it seems in Jupiter, where the long-shuttered Marc's Chop House on the Intracoastal will in August become Casa Mia Jupiter, an Italian restaurant with an emphasis on the cuisine of Tuscany. Look for $20-and-under entrées and pizzas from an oven being brought over from Italy.
