South Florida Food and Drink Events This Week: Beer Dinner, Tarpon Bend Turns 15, and More
It's the start to yet another workweek, and you couldn't be more thrilled. Weekdays are the worst, unless you live in South Florida, where we refuse to let a moment go by without cramming it full of entertainment.
Whether you're looking to relax and recover from another fun-filled -- and possibly alcohol-infused -- weekend, or want to let the party continue with equally entertaining events, there's something for you to do in Broward and Palm Beach counties this week.
There's quite possibly no better way to celebrate Monday than with a burger. Try any of Rok:Brgr's 20 specialty burgers today with their weekly BRGR:BASH, which kicks off the work week every Monday. Every burger is just $10, all day and night. If you're thirsty, wash all that burger goodness down with a $5 craft beer, and $5 Absolut vodka drinks.
Whole Foods Back To School Pop-Up
The kids are back in school, and Whole Foods Market is hosting a line-up of events to get kids off to a smarter food start this semester. Stores throughout the state are featuring free back-to-school lunch giveaways, as well as store sampling parties and pop-up carts of healthy and fun goodies such as grilled cheese sandwiches. In Boca Raton, say goodbye to summer (and hello to the school year) with a grilled cheese. On Thursday, Whole Foods Market in Boca Raton will be hosting a special Back-to-School event, Meltdown: Grilled Cheese Bonanza, from noon to 2 p.m. The event will feature Organic Valley products, and kids eat free. A $5 donation for adults goes to the Whole Kids Foundation, and additional prizes and giveaways will be available.
Family Night Food Truck Invasion
Get the kids -- heck, even the grandparents -- together for a night of food truck fun with this special family-themed event on Tuesday (and every Tuesday) from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The round-up will feature some of the areas best food trucks, and will take place at Heritage Park in Plantation. Are you a parent, teacher, student or staff member of a school within five miles of Plantation Heritage Park? If so, there's something special for you: each week the event organizers will be giving each school an opportunity to win $100 towards their school's PTSA. Visit the Food Truck Invasion website.
Tucker Duke's Beer Dinner
Burgers and beer are a match made in heaven. So, it should come as no surprise that one of the best burger joints in the area would throw down on a brew-centric dinner. On Tuesday, Tucker Duke's Lunchbox in Deerfield is hosting the last of its summer brewmaster series. This time Funky Buddha, Wynwood Brewery and Cigar City are teaming up to present one of their best brews to pair with four-courses from Tucker Duke's owner Brian Cartenunto. The dinner starts at 7 p.m., and tickets are $55. Go here to purchase tickets online.
Sushi Tasting Dinner at Tskuro
Join Tsukuro for another Sushi + Sake monthly pairing dinner on Tuesday. This unique experience provides guests the opportunity to sample a dozen rolls from the sushi menu, along with a choice of paired wine or chilled sake. A special reception with pass-around tasting plates and a choice of Zipang sparkling sake or Minuty dry rose will start the pairing night. Tickets are $55; they are available by calling 954-523-1407, and must be paid in advance.
Bingo may be associated with old-folks' homes, but -- as with life itself -- it's pretty awesome when you just add beer. This Wednesday, you can enjoy both at the Riverside Market, which is hosting its monthly beer bingo at 7 p.m. It costs just $5 for the first card, and $2 for every one after that. Riverside Market is located at 608 SW 12th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
On The Ave.
Delray Beach's free outdoor event, On the Ave, returns to the downtown area this Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. The event spans the area from SW Fifth Plaza at West Atlantic Avenue to Southwest First Street, and includes activities for adults and kids, as well as live entertainment. Food will be provided by Outside the Box Food Truck.
Tarpon Bend Turns 15
This Friday, Tarpon Bend in Fort Lauderdale is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a special "Crawl on Duval" party. The side street east of the restaurant will be closed to make way for live band performances (Jared & Jim and Ketchy Shuby) playing both indoors and outside. The event starts at 6 p.m. with 2-for-1 drink specials all night long, as well as the continuation of the $6 drink special available now through August 23, 2014.
Girls' Night Out 2014
Each week, bars across South Florida host a special Ladies' night. Nothing too out of the ordinary, right? This Friday, it's a little bit more special, however. Pampas Grill in West Palm Beach will be hosting Girls' Night Out in South Florida, edition 2014. Time to let your hair down, hang out with your BFFs -- and do some shopping, eating and drinking. Look for a variety of unique vendors, and participate in a raffle with door prizes valued at $25 and up. The event begins at 6 p.m.
