Looking to hit that "gourmet but affordable" sweet spot, according to proprietor Tim McGowan, is Sweet Greens Market (4807 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens, 561-624-0857), which snuck open on Wednesday but is hosting a weekend grand opening party this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 6 and 7.
The indoor market will boast an extensive selection of produce, much of it organic and as local as the seasons allow, plus a variety of upscale accouterments, from tomato sauces and pastas to wines and cheeses. Also on-premises are a fish counter; bakery turning out assorted breads, cakes and pastries; a deli offering a variety of prepared and foods to go; and all the usual day-to-day grocery suspects.
Oh, and there's barbecue, from Swingbelly's in Long Island, NY. Not
flown-in 'cue, but smoked-cooked on premises in a gleaming stainless
steel smoker. Ribs, chicken, pork and even turkey will be on the menu,
along with whole smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving. The 12-hour smoked
brisket is a good one, as is the sneakily incendiary chili, made with
"burnt ends" (the nicely charred tips of brisket), smoked chicken and
poblano peppers.
Sweet Greens' grand opening bash runs from
9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. There will
be live music, food and wine tastings, prizes and all that sort of
stuff so put on your dancing shoes.
