The Hatsume Fair, St. Patrick's Day, and other Food and Drink Events this Week in South Florida
Instead of green Miller Lite on St. Patrick's Day, try some sake at the Hatsume Fair.

Green beer, hot sake, and fine wines all will be flowing this week in South Florida, with everything from St. Patrick's Day parties, to the Hatsume Fair 2012, to a wine tasting in Fort Lauderdale on the agenda. There also are a few events catering to the healthy/ethical/meatfree/bunny-hugging sector. Read on after the jump to find a few food and drink events this week and weekend in Broward and Palm Beach.
Fish cooking class -- Seafood has been a hot topic at Clean Plate Charlie in recent weeks. If all that talk has sparked an interest in learning how to prepare your own dinner, try the "Fantastic Fish Class" at 7:30 tonight at Chef Jean-Pierre's Cooking School in Fort Lauderdale. You'll learn how to make three dishes, including a bacon-wrapped and roasted cojo salmon and yellowtail snapper with country mustard sauce. The cost is $70 per person. Free screening of Forks Over Knives -- Catch a free screening of the 2011 documentary followed by a reception with healthy foods, wine, and fruit smoothies. The film is 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the reception immediately following. The event is hosted by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and will be held at Cinema Paradiso in Fort Lauderdale. Sunset Green Market at Glades Plaza -- Fresh-baked breads and sweet treats, produce, cheese, and herbs are some of the commonly-found wares at this weekly market from 3 to 7 p.m. at 2240 NW 19th St. in Boca Raton.
Celebrity chef/demo -- Publix Apron's Cooking School in Plantation will host cookbook author Judith McLoughlin (The Shamrock and Peach) who will give a demonstration of her Scots-Irish/American South fusion cooking techniques. The demo is 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $40 per person. Register online.
Wine tasting at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale -- Sommelier Stephanie Miskew leads a wine and food pairing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Museum. Reservations are required and there are a limited number of seats available. Call 954-262-0249. The cost is $35 per person.
Hatsume Fair 2012 -- This two-day festival at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is focused primarily on Japanese cultural aspects like dancing, Taiko drumming, and anime, but there also will be some food and drink focused activities like sake tasting and tea ceremony demonstrations, plus Japanese snacks from Tate's Comics and other food vendors onsite. The festival is 11 .m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Tickets at the door are $12 for adults and $6 for kids.
St. Patrick's Day -- Though several of the biggest festivals and parades were held a week prior to the big drinking holiday, you can count on finding opportunities to celebrate at local bars and restaurants. Find a few St. Patrick's Day activities at Clean Plate Charlie.
Cookout at Whole Foods Market in Boca Raton -- Visit the Whole Foods Market patio from noon to 3 p.m. and drop $5 in the donation jar and get a burger, hot dog, or "vegetarian option." Money raised benefits the Whole Planet Foundation, which gives micro-loans to people in developing countries.
Great American Meatout and Adopt-a-Thon -- The Great American Meatout is actually March 20, but the Animal Rescue Force Adoption Center (ARFAC) will celebrate a few days early with a pet adoption event and by offering tastings of meat-free cuisine. The free event is 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the ARFAC, 5115 S. Dixie Highway, West Palm Beach.
