The Keg on Sixth Opens Today: We Got a First Look
Anytime a new place opens, we tend to get excited -- that's kind of our thing, if you haven't noticed.
But, whenever a craft-beer centric concept sets up shop, we're ecstatic. If we have one area of the food and beverage world covered in Broward, it's most certainly craft brews (and we're always happy to see more).
Tonight the Keg on Sixth, Fort Lauderdale's newest neighborhood bar and restaurant is celebrating its first night in business.
Last night, the spot held a soft opening and we got a first look.
Set in an industrial area, just south of State Road 84 and just west of US1, the place features a cool urban industrial vibe with graffiti from local artists, exposed Edison bulb light fixtures, and varying finishes, like corrugated steel, warm woods, and concrete floors.
It serves a wide selection of craft beer, a handful of wines on draft (which ensures each is held at the ideal temperature), and a small menu of globally inspired comfort fare.
Dishes span from vegetarian options like chilled soba noodle salad ($7) with Nuac Cham (a sweet, spicy, and salty Vietnamese sauce), pickled fruit, snow peas, and orange and flat bread salad ($7), herbed cheese, caramelized onion, mixed greens and lemon vinaigrette to light snacks, such at the Keg pickles ($4), a daily-changing selection of pickled veggies and curried cauliflower ($4) with pickled chilies and sweet soy to meaty bar snacks, including pork belly ($9) with kimchee, sticky rice, and orange sweet soy as well as the Keg Burger ($11) glazed with stout and topped with munster, roasted tomato, and bacon pepper jam.
A selection of gluten-free beers and menu items are also available.
As of right now, owners Eddie McNerney and Richard Carmichael, both longtime insiders in the Broward County bar scene, are keeping the menu simple and small, but the pair plan to expand the offerings over time. (Breakfast and lunch service will commence over the coming weeks; however, it's just dinner for now).
"We've been working everyday getting ready for this," says Carmichael. "We're excited to finally open for business."
The restaurant opens tonight at 5 p.m.
The Keg on Sixth is located at 3218 SE Sixth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
