It looks rundown and ragged, sitting on the corner of a small strip of other restaurants and businesses that have made the northwest corner of Sample Road and Federal Highway look depressing. But there is absolutely nothing depressing about the cheesesteak you will consume at the Steak Shop & Deli, which is where we were eating yesterday.

So maybe the name isn't very fancy. The décor isn't, either. While the Miami Dolphins colors are... quaint, you're not eating at the Steak Shop for its ambiance. You're there for the food: the greasy cheesesteak with the homemade mushroom wine sauce; the gyros platter; the fresh French fries; the Birch Beer. After 25 years, you get used to the faded aqua and orange and simply feast on superb cheesesteaks.

Don't forget the cash, though. The Steak Shop still goes old school with hand-written tickets and cash-only payments.
