It seems as if every time we turn around, there's another natural disaster happening somewhere. Sometimes, the news alerts and funding drives can all seem to blend together.

Our own lives certainly don't stop, and it can be tempting to just tune it all out -- especially around the holidays. But this is exactly the time of year when we should stop and think of our fellow human. Luckily, this is America, where the retail stops for nothing, not even typhoons.

Whole Foods in Coral Springs is offering you the opportunity to satisfy your stomach, your heart, and your need to shop for organic groceries.

Friday, December 13, from noon to 3 p.m., Whole Foods Market in Coral Springs is hosting a pop-cart to raise money for the American Red Cross to help those affected by the recent typhoon in the Philippines and neighboring areas.

"This is an extremely important cause to our team members and to our customers," says Jonny Rose, marketing team leader at the Coral Springs location. "A month later, the death toll is close 6,000, and nearly 2,000 more people are still missing. More than 12 million people have been affected. By holding this event, we hope to raise as much money as we can for those affected by the typhoon in the Philippines and neighboring areas."

Hungry and/or philanthropic shoppers can choose from Siomai veggie dumpling (without oil); BBQ chicken skewers with authentic inspired Filipino BBQ sauce; or Kamote-Cue: sweet potato fritter that uses the Kamote, which is indigenous to the Philippines.

Each item costs $3, and all proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross.

Between your donation to Red Cross and your ethically sourced coffee, you will be filled with insufferable righteousness for the rest of the day! (But well-earned, in this case.)

Whole Foods Market in Coral Springs is located at 810 University Drive in Coral Springs. Call 954-753-8000, or visit wholefoodsmarket.com.
