ZED451 Closes in Mizner Park; Cites Economy
The economic downturn of 2008 proved insurmountable to ZED451, which closed it doors today in Boca's Mizner Park; that's according to the corporate statement released by their publicist.
The restaurant opened in 2008 with a contemporary American rodizio format and a fixed-price menu. Meats were brought to the table on skewers and carved tableside for diners who also could choose from the large Harvest Table of salads, soups and sides.
Changes to the menu last year, with the addition of ala carte menu items, a bar snack menu and lower prices on some items apparently couldn't help the restaurant fight growing competition in the area.
Chicago's ZED will remain open. A statement from the corporate offices reads, "Our ZED451 flagship location in downtown Chicago continues to thrive,
which underscores the strength of the concept in urban areas," said ZED
Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Carl. "ZED451 is an unconventional
steakhouse that has proven very popular for group dining as well as its
bar experience. Its style of service, ambiance and food is highly
contemporary, if not revolutionary."
An attempt will be made to place the staff of ZED451 in other locations, perhaps Abe & Louie's, another of their restaurants. Foods remaining at the restaurant will be donated to the Boca Helping Hands food bank.
