Back in October 2008, our first story on Scott Rothstein wondered how a once-unknown lawyer could rise so quickly to the top of Broward County's power structure. About a year later, Rothstein's empire had crumbled. He had fled to Morocco and admitted to friends that he had stolen more than $1 billion in a Ponzi scheme. Now the government is selling off his assets to pay back victims, and Rothstein faces decades in prison for his misdeeds.
