Based upon its fiery live act, Lavola was picked from a slew of equally great local bands to open for Silversun Pickups earlier this year. This feat earned the West Palm Beach trio even more of the attention it so deserves — but singer-guitarist Julian Cires, bassist Matt Hanser, and drummer Brian Weinthal are still hungry for more. The Black Sea of Trees EP sold out shortly after its release, and now a studio EP titled Leaving Paris is in the works. Think My Morning Jacket and Dinosaur Jr., and Dead Meadow wouldn't be a far cry either, but mostly think about a band that's prepared to sweat through every shirt to entertain. Drawing on the heavy-duty riffs and sweetened melodies of decades past, Lavola's tried-and-true rock is undeniably its own.
