Although it may initially seem strange, a double bill combining raspy-voiced, spiky-haired dandy Rod Stewart and self-styled earth mother Stevie Nicks actually makes sense. It could serve a purpose, mainly to ease Nicks out of temporary retirement and to bring Roddy back to rock after years of crooning. Indeed, both artists set a high bar early on, but reclaiming that credibility could be a concern. Nicks' stint with Fleetwood Mac made her an iconic superstar, courtesy of albums like Rumours and the eponymous Fleetwood Mac. She subsequently managed to maintain that status with solo hits like "Leather and Lace," "Stand Back," "Edge of Seventeen," and "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" before falling off the radar a decade or so ago. Stewart was the essential British rocker, first with Jeff Beck and later the Faces and then finally on his own, until his Great American Songbook series found him abandoning rock in favor of cabaret. Neither artist has offered an album of all-new material in more than a decade (Nicks' next is scheduled for the end of May), so expect both singers to rely on older repertoires and some well-synched duets to rally the faithful. Make note that this Bank Atlantic date is the first stop of their so-called "Heart & Soul" tour, leaving it to us locals to decide whether this constitutes a worthy return.
