The Morning Of is a sextet of indie youngsters from upstate New York who have suddenly found themselves on the national stage. Reinforced by major distribution via their label, Tragic Hero Records, which was recently absorbed by Warner Music Group, The Morning Of are riding a wave of word-of-mouth and Internet buzz as they tour behind their debut album, The World As We Know It. They play melodic, upbeat numbers that rest on the dual foundations of a piano-guitar backdrop and a girl-guy vocal combo. While suburban kids churning out MTV-friendly emo-pop-rock might not be particularly novel, The Morning Of features a black female lead singer (Jessica Leplon) and an Arab bassist (Abir Hossain), especially unique when you consider the starchiness of their genre. The overall sound is Taking Back Sunday meets the Black Kids meets throwback Blink-182; the formula and the energy are there. This could be your last chance to see them rock a South Florida venue as small as this one.
