That’s the spot on East Las Olas Boulevard two women were crossing last night, around 7:30, when they were struck by a dark-colored SUV. According to the Fort Lauderdale police report, the driver fled the scene, heading east toward the beach.

One of the victims, 65-year-old Carolyn Bianco, sustained a life-threatening head injury and remains at Broward General Medical Center today. Another woman, 62-year-old Victoria Kirby, was treated for minor injuries.

Wild guess: Someone drank a bit too much at a downtown happy hour and was afraid of a manslaughter charge.
