Harness-racing fans in Canada adored track announcer Frank Salive, but he’s had a lifelong love of Pompano Park, where he’ll begin as announcer and publicist next month. From the London (Ontario) Free Press:
“I remember going down there in 1976 when I was just 21 years old,”
Salive said. “It was a break after working the (Montreal) Olympics —
it was my first assignment at CTV — and my first memory at Pompano
Park was of walking into the winner’s circle and shaking the hand of
the great (reinsman) Stanley Dancer.”
Sorry for stealing your man’s heart, Canada. Also, for taking your tennis star. For harboring so many scam artists in Boca. And for yesterday’s strong-armed robbery. If you buy more South Florida homes, we’ll stop.
After the jump, a sample of Salive’s work — his 100,000th race called at Western Fair Raceway, followed by a ceremony in his honor.
