Highlighted hair, high-end couture, and meticulous makeup jobs were the aesthetic components of the New Romantics, and nobody exemplified this preen ‘n’ dance better than Duran Duran. Icons of the ’80s new wave scene, the polished Brits pierced a hole through the collective psyches with hits like “Planet Earth,” “Rio,” “Girls on Film” and… yeah, I’m sure you know the rest. But as debauchery, internal squabbling, and lineup changes cemented the band’s future Behind the Music episode, their success also waned in the process.
After 1992’s self-titled release yielded the band’s last platinum effort, the follow-up albums flopped, and Duran Duran veered into unflattering where are they now? territory. But perhaps the recent retro craving was a blessing in disguise, as the original lineup has reformed with a new album, Astronaut, in tow. Call it a comeback, though they’ve been here for years. Duran Duran perseveres with catchiness, fashion sense, and eyeliner still intact.Duran Duran sings blue silver at 8 p.m. Friday, February 11, at Office Depot Center, 2555 Panther Pkwy., Sunrise. Tickets range from $46.50-91.50.
